The bass fishing has really fired over this last set of spring tides with up to 70 bass a day caught onboard Silver Halo on some of the trips. Not a single bait has been used and the vast majority of fish of course have been caught on the trusty JOKER jigs and lures!

Personally, the new ORCA jig has really stood out for me as I really like to mix the speed of my jigging. The Orca jig responds well to the faster pitches bringing it up through the water like a speed jig, after a volley of quick pitches covering approx5mI stop and jig slowly and with short and long lifts, before going another 5m quickly. This method is deadly for the bass and especially useful when they’re not just lying on the sea floor. The method also has the advantage of keeping away from those pesky pout that are lurking closer to the wrecks structure.

The ORCA Slow Pitch Jig is another excellent streamline, quick drop jig & useful in all conditions.
It’s similar to the Slammer & Cobra jig in it’s streamline profile but it’s much shorter & more chunky, so you can go much heavier without the jig becoming too long.

A highly versatile jig, it should be really be referred to as a ‘mixed pitch’ jig as it can be fished at any speed or depth.

Always mix up the rod pitches to increase interest from bigger fish! The Orca profile also creates a surprising amount of flutter given it’s smooth lines and shape!

THE AMAZING SLAMMER JIG GETS A NEW COLOUR!

The Slammer mixed pitch jig is currently the most popular jig in the JOKER range and it just got another excellent colour added to the line up!

Silver Halo coloured Slammer, the silver foil and glow white of the top side.

The brand new ‘Silver Halo’ colour scheme is made up with the same excellent silver holographic foil as the majority of the other Slammers. You can find them HERE on the Slammer product page.

This silver foil forms the main effect across the jig and it blends into a ‘glow white’ on one edge and a lovely fade from light to deep dark blue and then to black on the other.

The head of the jig also has more added black which helps it look like a seriously troubled or sickly fish!

Silver Halo coloured Slammer, the underside, glow white into silver foil and then into blues and black!

This colour scheme has a great contrast when fluttering in the water, with an excellent effect as it flashes from the white, across the blues to the black. It’s got an excellent natural range of colours and it’s going to be very hard to miss!

Currently available in 80g, 100g, 130g, 170g and 200g and ready rigged with a pair of assist hooks fitted to the top eye of the jig.

The bigger fish were feeding hard this April!

So the 2026 bass season opened on 1st April and guess what!? Just about all the bass dissapeared from our Lyme Bay wrecks! Through March we had a good number of bass on a few of the more offshore wrecks, on some days we were catching dozens of them and the smaller fish were becoming a pest! They were on their way further offshore and by the time the season opened in April they’d upped and gone! Now I expect we’ll be waiting a good month or more before we see new fish start to return.

Not to worry though, as we’ve had some solid pollack fishing with plenty of big fish into double figures. The JOKER Slammer and Cobra got the most use as many of the trips were in pretty grim conditions with stiff Easterly breezes. When the wind is moving the boat off it’s natural drift you need these streamline jigs to help hold your line vertical a bit longer. They get down fast and can handle faster jigging so work well when conditions get tougher.

On the calmer days we were quick to try other options and the Imp and Mayhem got a bit of time, these also caught well. The smaller profiles and additional flutter are always welcome!

2026 SPRING WRECKING SEASON KICKS OFF WITH A BANG!

The 2026 Spring wrecking season kicks off with a bang! A nice weather window in the first nine days of March allowed Silver Halo Charters to complete four offshore wrecking trips in quick succession.

Despite some tough sea conditions with three of the four trips dealing with massive tides and Easterly winds it was still the JOKER Jigs that were the standout fish producers, with the SLAMMER, COBRA and IMP all getting time in the water.

The Handing ‘Cruiser Shadow’ Slow Pitch Jigging Rod is an incredibly good value jigging rod.

Constructed using 30+40T Toray Carbon Fiber

and fitted out with Fuji reel seat & ring guides

The great price of this slow pitch jigging rod would suggest that it could be just another cheap entry level rod and a little lacking in some departments, but to be totally honest, it’s much more than that. These jigging rods feel great in hand and their action ticks the required boxes. They look neat, have a top quality finish and are really well put together. On top of that they’re fitted out with top quality Fuji components.

The action is smooth if a little steely, but they do work jigs very well and are not horribly stiff and lifeless like some of the other sub £200 rods that are currently on the market! Of course when compared alongside much higher priced SPJ rods they may lacks some of the smooth plushness through the action and recoil, but they do have a nice progressive curve and send your jigs in the right direction. They’ve recently been tested and of course ‘proven’ onboard Silver Halo and clients have enjoyed catching well with them!

Crafted with top-tier components such as Fuji DPS/TCS reel seat and Fuji K-series A-ring guides, along with the Toray carbon fiber blank. It delivers unmatched strength, sensitivity, comfort, and performance.

It’s a very ergonomic rod featuring durable, lightweight, high-density EVA grips. It’s no problem working jigs all day, the grips are correctly contoured for optimal comfort.

Designed specifically for saltwater inshore/off shore fishing, this 2-piece rod is ideal for targeting bass, pollock, cod, bream and anything else that hits jigs or small metal lures!

Please see the table below for my own guidiance on the ratings of each Cruiser Shadow jigging rod. I like to fish as light as possible so the Medium Light (ML) is my recommendation for inshore, occasionally offshore and on clamer days. This rod can still handle the 180g Cobra and 170g Slammer jigs, particularly as they’re nice and streamline and not overloading the rod. The Medium (M) rod is great for offshore and more challenging condiotions so man enough to get you comfortable in the 150g to 280g range.

An additional colour for the JOKER Super Fry Thin has arrived, it’s the beautifully simply GHOST GLOW!

The JOKER Super Fry Thin is an excellent metal lure that doubles as a micro jig. It can be fished in fresh or saltwater, from the boat, kayak or shore. Ideal for casting and a striaght retrieve but it’s deadly when used with the lift and fall technique or just twitched from under the rod tip.

The Ghost Glow colour is fully illuminous so it can be used in low light or even complete darkness. It glows on it’s own but if you charge it up with a torch or UV bulb it goes insanely bright!
